On May 29, leading officials from Dongguan Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, Houjie Economic Development Bureau, together with Kong Xiangli, Director of Tsinghua University Research Institute, paid an on-site research visit to CATO Precision Machinery (Guangdong) Co., LTD, a national key "Little Giant" enterprise featured in specialization, refinement, differentiation and innovation. Deng Hongyi and Chen Nan from the Corporate Communication Department of CATO accompanied the visit and held in-depth discussions with the research team. Both sides had extensive exchanges covering existing production capacity, business performance, medium and long-term financing plans, implementation of local supportive policies for Little Giant enterprises and joint government-enterprise solutions to operational challenges, in a cordial and productive atmosphere.

After the forum, Lin Cuimei, Deputy General Manager of CATO, was interviewed by Kong Xiangli and answered questions item by item based on the research outline. She recalled the company’s tough early startup days. Restricted by insufficient core technologies and scarce market resources in the initial phase, CATO mainly engaged in OEM processing with limited development prospects. The management made a strategic decision to abandon low-end OEM business and shift to independent R&D, focusing core development on precision CNC machine tool development. She also elaborated on product strengths, key transformation decisions, market expansion obstacles, industry-university-research cooperation, existing industrial challenges and suggestions for policy improvement, reviewing the full growth journey from a component subcontractor to a national key specialized Little Giant enterprise.
Since being certified as a national key Little Giant enterprise in 2023, CATO has leveraged favorable industrial policies to invest heavily in independent R&D and take part in multiple national key R&D projects targeting the localization of high-end CNC equipment. Breaking overseas technical monopolies, the company focuses on three core sectors: aerospace, new energy vehicles and humanoid robots. It independently develops core processing machines and intelligent flexible production lines to tackle common industrial pain points including inadequate precision, poor production line compatibility and high mass-production costs, boosting the quality and efficiency of domestic high-end manufacturing with localized equipment. Thanks to proprietary technological breakthroughs, CATO has achieved rapid growth in production capacity and operating revenue, built two new manufacturing bases and secured a position in China’s top-tier domestic manufacturers, with product performance comparable to world-renowned international brands.
During the interview, Lin Cuimei outlined the company’s future development blueprint and expressed sincere gratitude to the Dongguan municipal government for targeted support including special subsidies, talent introduction, industrial chain matching and application scenario construction. Supported by complete local industrial chains and favorable policies, CATO’s capacity expansion project is steadily underway. Going forward, the firm will further invest in cutting-edge R&D and tap market potential in new energy and high-precision machining. Rooted in Dongguan’s real economy, CATO will drive the upgrading of the city’s advanced manufacturing via continuous technological innovation and capacity expansion, feeding back to local real economy with high-quality industrial achievements.
